Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals made history in the 2008-2009 season as it was the first time in  franchise history our professional football team advanced to a superbowl. They played the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, February 1st and unfortunately lost the game, 27-23.

Despite their loss that year, the AZ Cardinals still have a large fan base and they are also a big part of football history. The team was founded in 1898 and are the oldest professional football franchise, at least here in the United States.

Our professional football team in AZ now plays its regular home games in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of the capital city of Phoenix.

Up until now, the franchise cherished its only NFL championship game victory back in 1947 at the time when they were based in Chicago.

Before the 1988 NFL season, the AZ Cardinals moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Tempe, Arizona. There, the team played their home games for the next 18 years at ASU's Sun Devil Stadium. Many could not wait until the team moved to Glendale and feel the team really needed to have their own stadium.

The new stadium was opened in 2006 and is where the team beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship game, 32-25.

Note there have been some changes if you plan on going to the games from now on... in light of the terrorist attack in Boston at the Boston Marathon, the NFL league has moved forward to provide a safer environment for all attendees at all NFL games, which includes games at the University of Phoenix Stadium, where the the Cards play all of their home games.

The move on behalf of the NFL Committee on Stadium Security, unanimously recommended this implementation for all stadiums.

The NFL Cardinals organization therefore strongly discourages fans from bringing any bags into the stadium.

Fans will be, however, allowed to bring the following bags:

  • Clear plastic bags, vinyl or PVC NOT to exceed 12” x 6” x 12.” Cardinals’ season-ticket members will be sent compliant bags in early August.
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar). The Cards will have these bags available at University of Phoenix Stadium gates on game day.
  • Small clutch bags may be carried into the stadium along with one of the clear bag options (the size of a hand) and with or without a handle or strap.
  • **Exceptions will be made to those requiring medical instruments following a thorough inspection at the arrival gate.

ALSO Prohibited Are The Following Items, But Not Limited To:

  • Coolers
  • Briefcases
  • Computer bags
  • Camera bags
  • Cinch bags
  • Luggage
  • Seat cushions
  • Purses larger than a clutch bag
