Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals made history in the 2008-2009 season as it was the first time in the franchise history that the professional football team of Arizona advanced to a superbowl. They are scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, February 1st at 4 PM (Arizona time) and 6 PM EST.They also are a big part of football history. The team was founded in 1898 and are the oldest professional football franchise, at least here in the United States. The professional football team of Arizona now plays it regular home games in Glendale, Arizona, which is a suburb of the capital city of Phoenix. The Cardinals are the current NFC champions and will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII. Up until now, the franchise cherished its only NFL championship game victory back in 1947 at the time that they were based in Chicago. e the league began holding a championship game, and is a in their ongoing run in the 2008-09 NFL Playoffs. Before the 1988 NFL season, the AZ Cardinals moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Tempe, Arizona. There, the team played their home games for the next 18 years at Arizona State University's Sun Devil Stadium. Many could not wait until the team moved to Glendale and feel that the team really needed to have their own stadium. The new stadium was opened in 2006 and is where the team beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship game, 32-25.
Certainly there was fan support before the AZ Cardinals advanced into the 2008 playoffs, but since winning the NFL championship game on January 18th, 2009, the Cardinals fan base has become a wild frenzy. The entire state is going crazy and right now, at the time of this writing which is just one day after the championship game, the hype is everywhere you go. It is so exciting to see so many people excited about OUR football team having the opportunity to play in the bowl game!
