Obama Visits Arizona
President Obama visits Arizona. The president arrived in Phoenix on Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 to discuss some of the issues that are plaguing not only the state of Arizona, but the entire nation as a whole. Others were just excited to get a chance to see Obama in Arizona. President Barack Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus bill into law on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 in Denver, Colorado and then traveled to Phoenix, Arizona where he spent the night and spoke at Dobson High School on February 18th. Prior to his speech in Mesa, the president spoke to Americans about how the stimulus package would stimulate the economy. Obama was quoted as saying, “Today does not mark the end of our economic troubles, but it does mark the beginning of the end, the beginning of what we need to do to create jobs for Americans scrambling in the wake of layoffs; to provide relief for families worried they won't be able to pay next month's bills; and to set our economy on a firmer foundation." Obama visits Arizona was a topic for employees who were fortunate enough to even have a job at the water cooler or break room at the time of his visit to the valley of the sun. Obama will discuss the economic stimulus package and some of the contents of it, such as the very hot topic of foreclosures before a huge crowd. The president discussed hopeful measures that will help the struggling homeowners who are about to go into foreclosure or those who are already in foreclosure. He also discussed ways to help homeowners avoid foreclosure and provide foreclosure help to those who desperately need it. The housing market in Arizona has not been exempt from house values as the average median price for a home dropped 35 percent from 2008 to 2009.
Obama realized that the city of Mesa has some of the foreclosures and will reportedly provide foreclosure help to homeowners. Obama visits Arizona were the headlines statewide today as television and radio stations around the state announced that the president had arrived.
Obama in Arizona was an event in of itself, but senators John McCain and John Kyle opposition to Obama’s stimulus package is well known. One thing that can be agreed on though, is that we Americans will all be watching closely, as well as others who doubt the package will improve the economy. Without a doubt, there are certainly some critics who just cannot understand how it will work with all of the money that is going to be spent for the package that Obama has now signed into law.
The economic stimulus package that President Obama signed on Tuesday hopes to give aid to many social programs, research proposals and construction projects. This package comes with a hefty price tag attached to it as it totals 787 billion dollars. This amount contains new spending on things such as health care, education, energy and the environment, foreclosure help, and help for those who have lost their jobs. It also includes money for programs to teach students who are in poor school districts. The monies will also be used to study disease prevention such as sexually transmitted diseases. Obama visits Arizona was the talk of any town in Arizona as well as the other states and the world at large as all eyes are on the United States with our new commander in chief.
"We're putting Americans to work doing the work that America needs done in critical areas that have been neglected for too long," Obama said while he visited Denver, Colorado. While he signed into law what he said that this was "the most sweeping economic recovery package in our history." No matter if you support Obama or the package, those who support the United States couldn't want more for the stimulus package to be a success.
