2008 Super Bowl 42

Well, the 2008 Super Bowl 42 has come and gone. And the New York Giants came away with a dramatic win, as they defeated the New England Patriots, on February 3, 2008, 17-14, in a thrilling game, to say the least.

According to the Associated Press, Super Bowl 42 that pitted the New England Patriots versus New England Patriots in Glendale, Arizona, was the most-watched Super Bowl in history. Over 97.5 million viewers watched what turned out to be one the most exciting (if not the most exciting) football games ever, as Nielsen Media Research reported.

If you had the means to really "do it up right," then you likely had an awesome time.

The Giants-Patriots game's actual rating reportedly came in at 43.3 rating, 65 share. This was highest of any Super Bowl since the year 1997. According to Nielsen Media Research, these numbers break down with 43 percent of the nation's television sets were tuned in to the game, and a whopping 65 percent of those sets that were on were said to be watching Super Bowl 42.

In Phoenix, the rating was 52 and the share was 75, several points higher than the national average.

If you saw the game, you probably were sitting on the edge of your seat, as I was. The excitement was more than I could stand. Whether your team was in the game or not, you likely chose a team that you would have liked to see win.

The New Your Giants were the winners of Super Bowl 42 and they certainly deserved to win with their outstanding performance both offensively and defensively. Eli Manning deserved the MVP award with his exemplary performance as well. I was happy for Manning because I know that he has had his critics who have often said that he is not as good as his older brother, Payton Manning, or even his father, Archie Manning.

Fox Sports couldn’t have been happier with Super Bowl 42 as it had just about everything a true football fan could have wanted. A very exciting game and unpredictable game throughout kept fans entertained until the very last moments of the game, as it could have easily been won by either the New York Giants or the New England Patriots.

Maybe the Miami Dolphins were even happier, as they were able to still retain their perfect record in 1972 that many thought would be tied by the favored New England Patriots.

It is considered to be a premier when it comes to the very best in architectural design. Business Week Magazine noted it as one of the 10 “most impressive” sports facilities in the world because of the combination of the retractable roof along with the roll-in natural grass field. The University of Phoenix is currently the only stadium in North America with such a stadium.

In addition to that, there's also are another 6,000 parking spaces within one mile of the site.

Stadium Design

With more than 300 days of sunshine every year, The University of Phoenix Stadium is retractable and due to the cooler weather tht day, the roof was not open during 2008 Super Bowl. 2008 Super Bowl was only the second Super Bowl where the event was played in a retractable roof stadium.

The University of Phoenix Stadium retractable roof actually has two large panels that have the capability to retract. The premier design enables it to uncover the entire playing field while providing the right balance of sun on the field and shade.

The architecture exterior design of the University of Phoenix Stadium is also an eye opener! The design is one in which to be desired and probably will be looked at for future stadium builders. How appropriate that the exterior design came from the idea from one of our cacti, the Barrel Cactus.

The design consists of vertical slots that alternate with smooth panels. In addition, light is still able to penetrate the fabric roof which allows the stadium to feel as if it were open, when the retractable roof is closed.

In addition to the very best in technology and design, the University of Phoenix Stadium is situated along a slight northwest to southeast axis which allows the very best of sun exposure for the grass field and maximum shade. Is that impressive or what? Glendale, Arizona certainly has something to be very proud of and surely cannot wait until 2008 Super Bowl!

February Weather in Arizona

Although not even the most experienced meteorologist could not guarantee what the weather would be like on February 3rd, 2008 for Super Bowl XLII, the weather was a little chillier than usual for that time of year, but certainly a lot warmer than the home teams of New England Patriots and New York Giants are used to! The weather was still quite comfortable leading up to 2008 Super Bowl and the days following the game. After all, with over 300 plus days of sunshine in any given year, it is pretty easy to figure that you will more than likely see the sun versus rain!

I have provided you with the average weather during February.

Average temperature in February: 70

Average low temperature: 44

Average precipitation: .6

Warmest ever: 92

Entertainment

The entertainment line up has not yet been determined for the 2008 Super Bowl. However, according to the entertainment publication known as Variety, (February 2007 issue) the NFL is in the process of developing a wish list for the halftime performers during 2008 Super Bowl. Both Bruce Springsteen and Norah Jones are reported as possible entertainers in 2008 Super Bowl.

2008 Super Bowl Seating

Like I mentioned, University of Phoenix Stadium has over 63,000 permanent seats and can the capacity was able to expand to an additional 10,000 seats to 73,000 for larger events such as the the very famous yearly Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and 2008 Super Bowl.

If you were able to sit in a luxury suites, you were able to choose from 88 suites that are located on two separate levels. These 88 suites will seat an approximate 1,500 patrons.

Also, club seating for 7,000 fans is available which includes access to private club lounge areas.

What is referred to as Lower bowl seating, accommodated 29,000 2008 Super Bowl fans.

Upper Deck Seating will hold approximately 26,000 fans.

All Seats are individual and each seat has arm rests along with cup holders.

Retractable University of Phoenix Stadium Roof

You know the old saying, "you can't please everyone?" Sure you do! Well, I will tell you that this applies to the retractable roof. There has been criticism on both ends of the spectrum when it comes to having the roof either open or closed.

I read a local article in the AZ Central newspaper where a gentleman was complaining about how cold it was in the stadium at one of the home games with the Arizona Cardinals. The man stated that he and his wife were sitting in the lower section at the southern end on the visitors side and were very cold throughout the entire game! Hopefully you were comfortable during the 2008 Super Bowl!

Super Bowl 42 was a memorable experience and was very proud to have had the game here in Arizona. By all accounts Super Bowl 42 was a huge success. The only complaint may have been the less than cooler weather, which was a little unseasonably cool for February.

The 2008 Super Bowl Arizona was a hit, no question about it! It represented the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.
